About the Diaper Drive

Since 2017, Gifts from Liam has worked to close the diaper gap to save babies. The same families impacted by diaper need are also those who lack access to services and education to keep their babies safe. Through collaboration with community organizations throughout Chicagoland, over 150,000 diapers, 20,000 wipes, and other baby supplies have been distributed. Each diaper package contains educational information on safe pregnancy and infant practices. In 2021, we added Permanent Diaper Relief to our programs to provide cloth diapers, offering families a more sustainable and lifelong solution to end their diaper need.

About the diaper gap

  • 1 in 2 families can’t afford enough diapers for their babies and are forced to choose between food or diapers.

  • Nearly 8% of families are forced to dry out and reuse dirty diapers, leading to health problems.

  • Low income families pay two times as much for diapers because they can’t afford to buy in bulk.

  • Daycares require 6-8 diapers per day. If parents can’t afford diapers, they can’t go to work.
